Welcome… to the Red Paint Blog

Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.”

My name is James and with this blog I’ll be sharing my views and experiences about something that has always fascinated me and has become a cornerstone of my career: UX (User eXperience) and UI (User Interface) design.

The Einstein quote at the top of this section is my favorite and it states my design philosophy perfectly. I spend a lot of time preaching the gospel of SIMPLICITY in here. The vast majority of usability issues that people run into are a direct result of making things needlessly complicated. Make things as simple as possible, but not too simple, and usually things work out to your benefit.

However, this blog isn’t ONLY about usability. I often take the opportunity to… shall we say, wander off the path.

Here’s some guidelines on what you can expect behind each of the nav elements above:

  • UX/UI Design: Posts having to do with user experiences and design issues.
  • RPR- Red Paint Rules: A list of several basic “rules” for usability that still always seem to get violated.
  • Red Ramblings: Basically everything else. If it doesn’t involve usability it’ll find it’s way into here.
  • Favorites: A listing of my favorite posts that I’ve written over the course of this blog’s history

Enjoy your time here. Updates hopefully come pretty regularly.
